Low-cleanup system

The two-night leftovers rule: enough relief, no food-hostage situation

A small system for using leftovers without turning every meal into an obligation.

A short leftovers window reduces both cooking and guilt, which is a respectable two-for-one.

Leftovers need an exit plan

Cooking extra can reduce work later, but only if everyone knows when it will be used. A two-night rule keeps leftovers from becoming a mysterious container that migrates to the back of the fridge.

Make the next use obvious

After dinner, label what is left in plain language and decide whether it is tomorrow's lunch, another dinner, or a freezer backup. The decision matters more than the container.

Permission to stop

If nobody wants a third round, stop. The goal is less food work, not proving devotion to a casserole.
